£32m Arsenal target is 'money well spent' - chairman

Higuain Celebrates Argentina

Arsenal linked Gonzalo Higuain is proving the doubters wrong at Napoli.
If Gonzalo Higuain was available for transfer this January, surely Arsenal would have to make a bid.
They came close to doing so in the summer, it was widely reported they had made an offer for the Argentine in an effort to snap him up from Real Madrid.

While they signed his more expensive teammate instead in Mesut Ozil, their flogging of Olivier Giroud - their only credible striker - is reaping predictable results.
Napoli were the team that took the plunge on Higuain, and if Arsenal did have doubts over how much the striker was worth, they certainly did not.

In an interview yesterday Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed he is thrilled with the progress of his striker, who has ably filled the void left by Edinson Cavani.
"The goals of Higuain? Someone had accused me of spending too much, I think I've spent my money well."
He has every right to believe so, despite their early exit from the Champions League.
Higuain has 13 goals in 21 games for his new side, with seven assists in the mix too, with four goals in his last four matches.

In fact the only worry for Napoli, is one very similar to Arsenal. They have had a marked drop in form when Higuain has been injured, and have reason to worry over their own back-up for the striker.
It could well be that come January, Arsenal and Napoli find themselves tussling in the transfer market as they did on the pitch, in a battle to sign a striker who may, unlike Higuain, be available.

Do you wish Arsenal just signed Higuain too?
