No problems for Nadal in Paris

Rafael Nadal at the Paris Masters...on Wednesday.
Rafael Nadal kicked off his quest for a maiden Paris Masters crown with a 7-5 7-5 victory over fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers on Wednesday.

According to ESPN, the  world No. 1 has only reached the final of the event, finishing a runner-up to David Nalbandian in 2007, but the reigning French and US Open champion will be keen to land a first Paris trophy and send a message to his rivals ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals at London’s O2 Arena next week.

Eaglets can win UAE 2013 –Adepoju, Baruwa

Mutiu Adepoju
Ex-internationals Mutiu Adepoju, Abiodun Baruwa  and Teslim Fatusi are backing the Golden Eaglets to go all the way at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria on Tuesday hammered Iran 4-1  to set up a quarterfinal clash with South American powerhouse Uruguay on Saturday.

And the former Super Eagles trio, who praised the team’s  winning mentality, believe the Eaglets have the quality to beat Mexico 2011 runners-up Uruguay and progress to win the trophy.

“The boys demonstrated that they are eager to win and that is very important if you want to win games,” Tunisia ’94 Africa Cup of Nations Adepoju was quoted by the News agency of Nigeria as saying on Wednesday.

Rory’ll be back winning titles – Woods

Rory McIlroy
RORY McIlroy will be back to his full winning ways within weeks, Tiger Woods has predicted.
According to Irish Independent,  Woods said  he believed the Irishman is slowly getting his golf game back on track and predicted that the former world number one would claim a breakthrough first victory of the year by the end of December.

McIlroy was on top of the world at the end of 2012, having won the orders of merit on both sides of the Atlantic, but he has had a turbulent season this year on and off the course.

Mikel hails Mourinho impact at Chelsea

Mikel Obi
Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has praised coach Jose Mourinho for the positive impact he has made since returning to the club at the start of the season.

The Blues are currently in second place on the Premier League standings and first in their group in the Champions League and Mikel believes the Portuguese has helped to restore their winning mentality.

“This game is all about winning and the manager that brought this transformation of winning to this club is back now,”  the Super Eagles star  told Chelsea TV.

Arsenal confidence intact – Wenger

Arsene Wenger
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said a Capital One Cup fourth-round defeat by Chelsea on Tuesday  will not hamper his side’s momentum ahead of a tough fixture list in November, BBC Sport reports.
Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata goals marked a second successive home defeat.

The Gunners lead the Premier League and face Liverpool and Manchester United in their next two domestic fixtures.

Asked if his side’s confidence had been dented, Wenger said,  “No. It’s a different competition.”
Since losing to Aston Villa in their first game of the season, Arsenal recorded 11 wins in 12 matches before losing to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League a week ago.

They recovered by beating Crystal Palace on Saturday but the defeat to Chelsea was the first time they have lost two consecutive games at the Emirates since February.

Balotelli not for sale – Milan

Mario Balotelli
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri has denied reports that Mario Balotelli could leave the club in January.
The 23-year-old Italy striker, who joined AC Milan from Manchester City in January, has been linked with a possible move to Chelsea.

Balotelli has scored three Serie A goals this season and is contracted to the Rossoneri until June 2017.
“He will not leave in January, absolutely not,” Allegri said on his club’s website.

Balotelli was banned for three games in September for using “intimidating and insulting” words to the referee after AC Milan’s 2-1 defeat by Napoli.

But his manager has backed him to be a success at the San Siro.
He added, “I think Mario should, be left in peace. It’s not difficult to manage him.
“There’s far too much discussion of the man’s private life.

“I think that Balotelli should be judged for what he does on the pitch, like all other players.”

Azpilicueta accepts rotation

Cesar Azpilicueta accepts that competition for places at Chelsea is fierce and is prepared to scrap for a starting berth.

The Spanish full-back finds himself behind Branislav Ivanovic in the Stamford Bridge pecking order.
That has restricted his involvement in the Premier League, with no top-flight starts made as yet this season.
Azpilicueta is, however, favoured in knockout football and played a leading role on Tuesday as Chelsea sent Arsenal crashing out of the Capital One Cup.

He claims to be 'happy' with the role he is being asked to fill at Stamford Bridge and appreciates that rotation is part of the modern game - with Jose Mourinho's Blues competing on multiple fronts.

Last season was Sir Alex Ferguson's last term in charge of the Red Devils, and his charges gave him the perfect send-off by winning the league a comfortable 11 points ahead of City, who finished as runner-ups at the end of the 2012/2013 season.

Muller Delight: German Deserves Nomination But Can’t Expect To Win Ballon D’Or

Thomas Muller stats What a year it was for Bayern Munich. They secured an unprecedented treble, ending their 12-year wait for a Champions League trophy in the process. 2013 saw them change their manager from Jupp Heynckes to Pep Guardiola and sign their rivals’ Borussia Dortmund’s hottest prospect. But their home-grown base remains, which makes their achievements even more remarkable.

One of six Bayern nominees is the ever-present and reliable German forward Thomas Muller, who is capable of playing many a position. He is comfortable as the striker, a central attacking midfielder and even as a right midfielder. It was an impressive year for Muller, who is an integral, yet largely underrated, player for Germany as well as his club, but whether his individual accomplishments will be recognised in this year’s award ceremonies remains to be seen.

Blatter should show Ronaldo respect, says Arbeloa

Blatter should show Ronaldo respect, says Arbeloa

The Spain international is not impressed with the Fifa boss' remarks about the attacker and feels his Madrid team-mate deserves more appreciation

Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has hit out at Fifa president Sepp Blatter in the wake of his comments about Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 77-year-old joked last week at an event at Oxford Union that the Portugal international "is a commander on the field of play" and spends "more time at the hairdressers" when comparing the Madrid star to Barcelona attacker Lionel Messi, prompting the Santiago Bernabeu side to demand an apology.

Blatter has since acknowledged his comments were inappropriate, but the issue seems unresolved as Ronaldo added fuel to the fire on Wednesday when he mocked the Swiss by celebrating his first goal against Sevilla by saluting like a commander.

Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg are in no mood to cease their transfer market spending this season. The club bought Luiz Gustavo from Bayern Munich this summer and it is believed that they may be open to the possibility of landing a couple of more high profile names at the Volkswagen Arena with reports indicating that the duo of Manchester United’s Shinji Kagawa and Chelsea’s Kevin de Bruyne may be on their transfer agenda.

Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs was quoted

Tottenham were awarded an 80th-minute spot-kick for a handball by Ahmed

Tottenham willing to go higher for Corinthians striker Pato

Tottenham are ready to up their bid for Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato.

The Mirror says Tottenham are monitoring £15million-rated Corinthians striker Pato with a view to increasing their competition for places up front.
Pato has had an unhappy time at Corinthians since moving there in January after a six-year spell at AC Milan.
Still only 24, he has hit eight goals in 23 matches and has fallen out with fans and his team-mates.

Toronto FC offer amazing £90,000-a-week to Spurs striker Defoe

Toronto FC are offering Jermain Defoe a BIGGER contract than his current Tottenham deal to make the move to Canada.

The Mirror says Defoe has received a whopping £5million-a-year offer to quit Spurs for Major League Soccer in January.

Toronto FC have put a stunning package - including £90,000-a-week in salary - on the table to try to tempt the “incredible” England striker away from the White Hart Lane club.

They face competition from Queens Park Rangers, however, with Harry Redknapp set make a renewed bid to persuade the 31-year-old to join their Championship promotion push.

The legendary forward blasted his former son-in-law in a birthday radio interview

On the day of his 53rd birthday, Diego Maradona has hit out at his former son-in-law, the Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero.

Aguero split from his wife Giannina, who is Maradona’s daughter, earlier this year after a four year marriage in which they had one son, Benjamin.

Giannina now lives in Madrid with their son, but it seems that ‘El Diego’ is in no mood to forgive the Man City star.

Valencia are challenging Arsenal for Chelsea striker Demba Ba.
The Daily Star says the Spanish club are desperate for a frontman and they have lined up Demba Ba as one of their targets.

Ba has struggled for game-time at Chelsea and was on the brink of leaving on transfer deadline day.
Arsenal were poised to sign him but the deal fell through due to the Gunners' reluctance to pay a loan fee.

Ronaldo could face post-Clasico sanctions, says referee chief

The 28-year-old reacted angrily after not being awarded a penalty against Barcelona and the head of Spanish officials wants to punish the winger

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo could face punishment from Spain's Refereeing Committee (CTA) following his conduct during Saturday's 2-1 Clasico defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou.

The 28-year-old was furious having not been awarded a penalty after a clash with Barca defender Javier Mascherano and berated referee Undiano Mallenco in the process.

The chairman of the CTA, Victoriano Sanchez Arminio, has suggested that the former Manchester United winger could be sanctioned in the aftermath of the Blancos defeat.

Gareth Bale scored two and made two more goals in his Real Madrid home debut - yet still found himself over-shadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo.

On a crazy night at the Bernabeu, Real beat Sevilla 7-3 with Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick after watching Bale - who replaced him this summer as the world's most expensive player when he moved from Tottenham - hit the first two goals of the night.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have only shown glimpses of their immense attacking potential so far this season, while Madrid fans have not seen the best of Bale as the Welsh winger battled for full fitness following his record-breaking summer move from Spurs.

Simeone defends Costa's Brazil snub

Simeone defends Costa's Brazil snub

The Atletico trainer discussed his striker switching to Spain, and claims he is unperturbed at being omitted from the World Coach of the Year award
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has defended Diego Costa's decision to snub Brazil in order to represent Spain at international level.

On Tuesday, the Brazil-born marksman ended weeks of speculation by officially announcing he would be switching allegiances from the country of his birth to la Roja, much to the frustration of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF), whose chiefs have called for the 25-year-old to be stripped of his citizenship.

However, Simeone has lept to the defence of the Atleti hitman, stating that Costa - who is eligible for Spain via five-year residency - has his respective reasons for making the switch.

Martinez: Jelavic must impress

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has urged striker Nikica Jelavic to battle for a starting role at Goodison Park.

Nikica Jelavic: Has been forced to settle for substitutes role
Martinez has chosen Romelu Lukaku to lead the line this season and the Belgian's impressive goalscoring form has forced Jelavic to settle for a place on the bench.

The Croatian remains part of Martinez's plans, but he admits Jelavic must continue to impress if he wants to regain his striking role.
"His attitude has been a 10 out of 10 and that's why when a player comes on as a sub he makes a big difference and the team benefits," he told the Liverpool Echo.

"It's a real focus to be as good as you can as an individual, but everything
comes down to the team so Niki, Arouna, and everyone who isn't starting needs to do what they can to help the team.

Paulo Futre slaughters Blatter for mocking Real Madrid star Ronaldo

Portuguese legend Paulo Futre has slammed FIFA president Sepp Blatter for his mocking of Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Blatter has since been forced to apologise for his comments made at the Oxford Union last week.
Futre told Marca: "There are no words to define what Blatter said about Cristiano. I'm angry, something like this should not come from the person who leads football.

"I know Cristiano Ronaldo and besides being a great player, he's a great son and a great brother. He has built up much respect as a person and as a player.

"Blatter has shown his hate, but Cristiano will talk on the field. He has offended the best player in the world."

Tottenham Hotspur have omitted Emmanuel Adebayor from their Capital One Cup tie against Hull City.
Two seasons ago Emmanuel Adebayor scored 17 goals for Tottenham. This time around we are approaching November and he cannot even get a look-in to score his first one.

The Togolese striker was hoping to start Spurs' home Capital One Cup tie fixture against Hull, after a poor showing from the first team against the same opponent in the Premier League at the weekend.

Instead Adebayor has not even been named on the bench, with youngster Harry Kane preferred.
If manager Andre Villas-Boas' mind has truly been made up about the striker, which it certainly seems now, then leaving him out and looking to the future with Kane seems like a logical option.

Manchester United have plenty of attacking options, but who should David Moyes put out against Fulham this weekend?

In hindsight, at least in my eyes, it is pretty clear now that Sir Alex Ferguson simply signed Robin van Persie to ensure that he left Old Trafford a winner - and RVP did the trick, scoring the goals that led United to the title in Sir Alex’s swansong year.

But this season, despite scoring five goals from seven appearances, many have questioned whether RVP should be as assured of a place in the team as he was last term.

Cissokho hails 'world-class' Suarez & Sturridge partnership

The two strikers have now scored 16 goals between them this season - more than any other Premier League pair - and the defender says their form is key to Liverpool's success
Liverpool duo Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are one of the "best attacking partnerships in Europe", according to Aly Cissokho.

The two strikers scored four between them against West Brom at the weekend, with Suarez netting three, to take their combined tally to 16 this season - more than any other top-flight pairing.

And Cissoko admits the two strikers are key to ending Liverpool's wait for a first ever Premier League title.

Beckham backs Moyes for success

David Beckham has backed David Moyes to win over his doubters at Manchester United, after insisting whoever succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson was likely to be in for a rough ride at Old Trafford.

Beckham dodged questions about Ferguson's controversial autobiography in an earlier media appearance to promote his own new book, but he was a little more candid on talkSPORT radio when quizzed on Moyes's stuttering start to life at his former club.

"I played with him [Moyes] during my loan spell at Preston and I've seen him progress as a manager over the years at Everton," said Beckham.

"I'm really happy for him that he got the job at United because he’s a really great person and he’s a talented manger. It's good to see him there and the United fans are behind him well which is a good thing.

The Liverpool defender is relishing the prospect of facing his former side, and is keen to show Arsene Wenger why he made a mistake selling him to Manchester City in 2009
Kolo Toure is keen to prove Arsene Wenger wrong when Liverpool meet Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

The centre-back spent seven years in north London - winning the Premier League once and FA Cup twice - before being sold to Manchester City for £15 million.

Toure has since joined Liverpool and is gunning for the win to leapfrog table-topping Arsenal, but admits he owes Wenger a debt for guiding him during the earlier stages of his career.
