De Gea has been one of United’s only stars that have played well this season and he has now fully established himself as No. 1 for United, something which has provided one of the few bright sparks at Old Trafford.
“On a personal note I feel good; I’m really happy and brimming with confidence,” he told Spanish newspaper Marca.
“It’s great to be getting a regular run in the side. Now I want to keep learning, improving and helping the team.”
United were condemned to back to back home defeats in the space of just four days thanks to two 1-0 losses at the hand of Everton and Newcastle in what was a terrible weak for the team, something which De Gea wants to turn around with immediate effect.
“The team isn’t playing well, especially at home,” De Gea continued.
“We’ve lost two games on the bounce and failed to score in both.
“We need to start winning, because we’re falling off the pace at the top.
“We’ve not been up to scratch, there’s no hiding that. We’re struggling to create clear chances in the opposition box and when that happens you get punished. We have to keep working hard and improving.”
However, the former Atletico Madrid man remains adamant that United will not go down without a fight despite being 13 points behind leaders Arsenal almost halfway through the season.
He added: ”To put it bluntly, it’s going to be a big task, but we’ll keep fighting to the end.
“We will try to be there or thereabouts, as we should be.”
