Champions League round-up: Schalke send Basel into the Europa League and Milan's draw with Ajax is enough to progress
Schalke 2 Basel 0
Basel failed to gain the point they needed against Schalke to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
Second half strikes from German international Julian Draxler and Joel Matip saw them progress along with Chelsea to the last 16 of the competition. Ivan Ivanov was sent off for the Swiss side on 30 minutes.
The most controversial moment of the night came in the XX minute when Matip made it 2-0, but replays showed he and four team-mates were standing in offside positions in the build-up to the goal.
