1The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer and up until this point, it was believed he would leave Porto on a free in the summer but A Bola suggest that the process of Fernando signing a new agreement can be sealed ‘very quickly’.
United have tracked Fernando since at least October this season, probably due to the fact he is going to become a free agent, but new contract talks could get in the way of a swap deal including Anderson going in the other direction back to the club United signed him from. Porto are reportedly interested in taking
Anderson back and he has previously intimated that he would like to return some day, so maybe that time is now.
Letting Anderson rejoin Porto was a potential way for United to push a deal through and if it were to happen in January, United could get in there early before he became a free agent in the summer but it would command a fee that wouldn’t exist in the summer.
On paper, Fernando is a midfielder who would add a lot to United’s current set-up and he’d be a much better midfielder in the squad than Anderson but new talks indicate that Fernando may well end up not leaving the club altogether as Porto are reportedly happy to make him their highest paid player to get him to stay in Portugal.
