Milo Football Clinic kicks off in Lagos
The
final leg of season four of the annual Milo Football Clinic kicks off
in Lagos on Tuesday. Kids across Lagos will today converge at the Agege
Stadium as the event that started in Abuja in September takes the final
lap.
Six major cities in Nigeria had hosted
the clinic coordinated by one of the Nigeria’s greatest goalkeepers,
Peter Rufai, and for five days, participants between 13 and 15 will be
tutored on the rudiment of football by top coaches led by the former
Super Eagles goalkeeper.
The coaches are expected to select the
best 32 from the over 2,000 kids participating to take part in the
novelty match that will climax the Lagos event on Saturday.
Brand Manager of Milo, Funmi Osineye has
said that the clinic is not about acquiring skills alone, but also
teaching and tutoring the kids on the values of life, which she believes
would help them in their future endeavour. Among the values listed by
Osineye are determination, discipline, respect, honesty, and teamwork.
For the season four, over 14,000 kids
are expected to be trained and when the Lagos leg of the camp is
concluded on Saturday, the target set for this season would have been
met.
Osineye said, “We believe that long after
the final whistle is blown, these children are better equipped to face
the future as their social, team building and leadership skills have
been developed through the practice of good sportsmanship as exemplified
throughout this week. And Milo would continue to develop healthy,
physically fit, intellectually sound and morally upright champions for a
better Nigeria.”
Apart from Abuja this year’s edition of
the Milo football clinic has also been held in Benin, Port Harcourt,
Enugu, Akure and Abeokuta. In each of these venues, 32 selected kids
were awarded scholarships between N20,000 and N40,000 and as well as
Milo products and stationery.
