PSG Enquire About Chelsea’s Most Creative Player. Transfer Scouting Report
When Juan Mata was left out of the Chelsea team on the opening day of the season, and again in the 0-0 draw with Manchester United, you sensed that this years Deadline Day could be huge in determining is future. Whilst Jose Mourinho has maintained that the diminutive play-maker is not available for transfer, rumours are that big-spending Paris-Saint Germain have made an enquiry regarding his availability, according to L’Equipe.
There is a common view that selling Mata would be a silly thing to do and there is plenty of evidence to back up this opinion. However, you have to ask the question; would Mata get the regular football he desires in a World Cup year at Stamford Bridge, especially after the arrival of Willian? The answer is; I am not sure. There are so many players vying to start in the hole behind the striker at Chelsea that despite Mata’s talents, he is not guaranteed to play and, judging by the opening few games, Mourinho prefers his other options.
On the other hand, if you take a look at last season’s statistics and achievements, it would seem like a no-brainer to keep Mata. He was Chelsea’s brightest spark throughout the season as they won the Europa League with Mata scoring 20 goals and assisting 35 in all competitions. In the league he scored 12 times and assisted 12 goals which is a stunning return.
The Spaniard was many people’s pick to win the PFA Player of the Year trophy that Gareth Bale eventually picked up, and at the start of the transfer window, it seemed unthinkable that he could leave the club.
In total, he created 95 chances in the league which is four more than Mesut Ozil, who PSG were rumoured to be interested in before Arsenal secured his signature earlier on Deadline Day.
Added to that, 59% of his passes went forwards, which shows that he is nothing but positive when in possession of the ball.
He would obviously be a fantastic signing for PSG, who are obviously in the market for an attacking midfielder and to be honest, the way things are looking, he would be more likely to play every game in France than if he remained in England. He is a phenomenal player but if Mourinho has decided he doesn’t want him, there is not much he can do about it. Although it seems that a deal is unlikely,iIt would be a shame for the Premier League to lose one of its best players if the deal did go through. PSG have a recent knack of getting their man, we will see if this trend continues in the final few hours of Deadline Day.
