Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck continued his fine recent scoring form with two goals in England’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova last night.


Welbeck scored either side of half-time in a 4-0 win, adding to earlier goals from Steven Gerrard and Rickie Lambert. However, the United striker will be suspended for Tuesday’s must-win match against Ukraine after picking up a harsh yellow card for playing on after the whistle.

While England manager Roy Hodgson claimed the booking overshadowed a good performance, Welbeck can take heart from the fact that he has now scored six goals in his last seven England appearances.
Robin van Persie was also on target last night, scoring a late penalty in a 2-2 draw to rescue a point for Holland against Estonia.

From United present to United future, with two of David Moyes' most promising young players linked with loan moves this morning.

The Daily Mail reports that Michael Keane is a loan target for Championship side Blackburn Rovers.
The 20-year-old defender spent much of last season on loan at Leicester City, but now it is Gary Bowyer’s side keen to take him back into the second tier.

And star of pre-season Jesse Lingard may follow him, with Birmingham City said to be interested in a similar deal for the attacking midfielder.

Lingard also spent time at Leicester last season, but the Mirror reports that Lee Clark now hopes to bring him to St Andrew’s…if he can find the necessary funds.
