A few million reasons Liverpool won't sell Luis Suarez this January

Rumours are rife this morning that Arsenal will make another approach for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez this January.
If you thought the Luis Suarez saga was over then think again because all of the indications today suggest Arsenal will have another going at signing the Uruguayan star this January with a £50 million offer.

However, there are several reasons which make that move in the middle of the season very unlikely and Liverpool fans should be able to rest easy that their club won’t sell their best player in the middle of a crucial campaign.

The most obvious area the idea doesn’t make sense is through Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to do transfer deals in the winter months.

He did pay Zenit St Petersburg £10 million to sign Andrey Arshavin in January 2008, but that’s one of the only examples in recent memory where the Frenchman has pushed the boat out to sign a player in the winter.

Add to that the fact that Liverpool are currently enjoying a fantastic start to the season and there is every reason to believe they can maintain their form when Suarez returns, heading into a busy Christmas period.

If Liverpool hit the winter months still in a good position and with a very realistic chance of winning some silverware come the end of May, there is no logic at all in selling the club’s star striker.

He’s going to be vital if Liverpool are looking at a very decent season, especially a Champions League place which would further reduce any chances that he’ll walk away from the club.

It would be completely different if Liverpool hit January mid-table and with no real chance of a shot at the Premier League title and making the top four. For that to happen, Liverpool would have to endure a dramatic decline.

It also doesn’t make any sense because if Arsenal desperately wanted to sign Suarez for £50 million, they would have produced that offer when they bid £30 million and £40 million for him earlier in the summer.

He’s clearly a player that Wenger is interested in but if Arsenal weren’t ready to pay £50-55 million for him when they had the chance to do so, it doesn’t make sense that January puts them in a good position to have another crack.

There are also the recent comments from the man himself that the matter is closed and he’s not thinking of life away from Liverpool.

“For me, it has been closed for some time. I made the decision to stay at Liverpool some weeks ago and I want to stay and work for the team from now on. I will go back to Liverpool to play and I hope to be the same player the fans can trust,” Suarez was quoted in the Daily Mirror.

For him to go back on those comments, especially in the middle of a season, would need something to badly go wrong such as consistently poor receptions from fans or a falling out with Brendan Rodgers.
The chances of either of those things happening are very slim and Liverpool fans should be very confident that Suarez isn’t going anywhere until at least next summer.
What do you make of the reports? Do you think he could go this January?
