Premier League - Paper Round: Chelsea set for fresh Rooney bid
Chelsea are preparing to make a fresh bid to capture Wayne Rooney; the Blues are set for a fight with Arsenal over Kurt Zouma; and a rare heart-warming story involving a Premier League footballer - here are the main stories making headlines in today's newspapers.
Rooney targeted by Chelsea once more: Chelsea are on "red alert" withWayne Rooney still waiting to be offered a new deal at Manchester United,
reports the Daily Mirror. United have made no attempt to tie the
England striker down to a new contract, giving Chelsea hope they can
lure him to Stamford Bridge in the summer. The paper claims that there
have been no talks about a new offer and that none have been planned or
scheduled.
The news hasn't just "emerged" as the report claims, and it's difficult to see what is new about this story. Of course Chelsea were interested in the United striker last summer, and they probably will be next too, but to go from amicable stand-off to Defcon 1 overnight without any new developments seems a little far-fetched and rather difficult to swallow.
