Chelsea transfer news: new bid to sign Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco
Chelsea are to make a renewed attempt to sign Radamel Falcao from AS Monaco in January after he requested a transfer, according to the Daily Star.
The surprising element of the potential deal is that the Blues have boldly tried to agree a loan deal with the principality club, who signed the Colombian for a €60 million outlay in the summer.
Falcao is reportedly unhappy with his wages in Monte Carlo, as if tax protests by the rest of the Ligue 1 clubs are successful, the 27 year-old’s €14 million salary will be halved to €7 million.
AS Monaco are currently exempt from tax regulations, saving €50 million per season in comparison to other clubs in the French top flight due to their geographical location in the principality, and the Daily Star say Falcao has asked to leave at the next available opportunity.
Chelsea are naturally more than willing to take the Colombian off of Monaco’s hands, with a loan deal and future permanent purchase on the cards.
Jose Mourinho watched Falcao in Colombia’s recent 2-0 victory over Belgium, and appears to be confident that he could do a better job than Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o up front.
