Bundesliga giants look to snatch Chelsea target
Borussia Dortmund are leading Real Madrid and Chelsea in the chase for Porto marksman Jackson Matrinez, according to talkSPORT.
Jürgen Klopp has been forced to concede that star striker Robert Lewandowski is leaving Westphalia, and has eyed Colombian international Martinez as the ideal replacement.
The Dortmund coach will, however, have to fight off competition from both Spain and England.
Real Madrid are looking for a focal point to complement their attacking trio of Ronaldo, Isco and Bale, as Los Blancos never really seem content with Karim Benzema’s contributions as spearhead. The Frenchman is also reported to be London bound, to join Mesut Özil at Arsenal.
Chelsea, on the other hand, appear to pop up in the rumour columns whenever a striker is mentioned. The forward position is the achilles heel in Mourinho’s XI, and the Blues fans must be wondering what happened when Jose allowed Romelu Lukaku, the Drogba-esque scorer of six goals in his last five appearances for club and country, to go on loan to Everton.
It is well known that both Chelsea and Real are heavier financial forces than Dortmund, but reports suggest that the Germans are close to agreeing a deal with Porto. And with 31 goals in all competition last season, Martinez might be another genius deal for Klopp, who have a remarkable ability to strengthen his team whenever a star player departs Westfalenstadion.
