Man City humiliate United

Sergio Aguero scored twice, as Manchester City thrashed Manchester United 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

City outplayed the Premier League champions and reinforced their own title credentials, with captain Vincent Kompany outstanding at the heart of the home side’s defence.
City were quicker to the ball, crisper in the pass and dominated the midfield as David Moyes’ side wilted under the Eastlands’ sun.

City took the lead on 15 minutes when Samir Nasri slipped the ball to the overlapping Aleksandar Kolarov on the left, and the Serbian crossed for Aguero.

The centre was slightly behind the Argentina forward, but the 25-year-old brilliantly angled his body to strike a superb volley past Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea.

United were hanging on until the break, but conceded a second goal in first-half injury-time when Yaya Toure poked out a leg to deflect a Alvaro Negredo knockdown from a Samir Nasri corner into the goal from point-blank range.

City came roaring out at the start of the second half, and made it 3-0 two minutes after the break when the impressive Negredo held off Nemanja Vidic on the left side of the area and crossed over for Aguero to volley home at the far post.

It got even worse for United moments later, as Kompany won the ball on the edge of his own area and followed the run of Jesus Navas into the United box.
The City captain’s bold run caused confusion at the near post between Chris Smalling and Rio Ferdinand, and Navas was able to float up a cross for Nasri to volley a fourth goal at the far post.

United's Wayne Rooney netted a brilliant free-kick four minutes from time, a record-breaking 11th goal in a Manchester derby, but the England’s striker’s muted celebration suggested it was of little consolation.
At the Cardiff City Stadium, Paulinho netted an injury-time winner against Cardiff to send Tottenham into second place in the Premier League, behind London neighbours Arsenal on goal difference.
