Chelsea star urged to trust Jose Mourinho
Despite being one of the Blues’ best performers over the course of the past few seasons, the Spaniard has lost his spot in the starting XI under ‘The Special One’.
Mourinho is thought to be unconvinced by Mata’s abilities, with Oscar appearing to be his favoured choice in the ‘number 10’ role.
The 25-year-old is set for a rare start in the Londoners’ Capital One cup clash with Swindon Town this evening, with the club set to rotate their options following a demanding week of fixtures.
Holland feels that Mata should trust his new manager, citing his work with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid as an example of how he can improve some of the very best players in the world:
“He (Mourinho) is always pushing, pushing the players to the maximum every day, that’s evident not just in his teams, but in the individuals he’s worked with.” He is quoted by Sky Sports.
“If you look Jose’s three-year period working with Ronaldo, he’s really evolved as an individual. He’s not just a talented dribbler and runner with the ball who can score goals.
“He has become a top-level match-winner who wants to run in behind, make runs, threaten the goal.
“I don’t think that just happens. That comes with pushing, even if it’s the best.
“On a day-to-day basis he (Mourinho) will be pushing for signs of improvement, working to progress the individual but ultimately for the benefit of the team.”
Mata has been linked with moves to Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks.
Should Juan Mata put his faith in Jose Mourinho? Or is it time to move on?
