Oviedo’s 86th-minute goal gave Everton a famous victory on a night when David Moyes felt the full wrath of his former fans.
It was the first time the Scot had faced Everton since his summer switch to Manchester United.
The United boss was booed by the visiting fans as he made his way to the technical area and subjected to taunts.
Evertonians were angry that Moyes walked away from them after 11 years and then tried to raid his old club for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines.

Fellaini, who followed Moyes from Goodison in a £28m deal, also got it in the neck as the travelling Blues jeered his every touch.
Moyes again had to do without Robin van Persie, who has been crocked with groin and toe problems since last month’s win over Arsenal.

It was Everton’s main man Romelu Lukaku who posed all of the early bother as the visitors made good on Roberto Martinez’s vow that they would strut and not shrink at Old Trafford.
The powerhouse Belgian sparked panic in the United box as the hosts scrambled to clear a Kevin Mirallas cross and then dragged wide from the edge of the box.

When Shinji Kagawa was robbed in midfield by Ross Barkley, Lukaku was played in by James McCarthy, only for his drive to fly wide off defender Nemanja Vidic.
Everton’s early assault continued as United keeper David De Gea turned the ball over the bar from Mirallas’ 25-yard blast.

As the visitors screamed for the ball to be knocked out of play due to a nasty knock to Steven Pienaar, Wayne Rooney’s powerful hit was turned away by keeper Tim Howard.
Moyes’ interest in Baines has cranked the heat right up on left-back Patrice Evra.
But the French defender showed he is up for the battle with a classy challenge on Seamus Coleman before hitting a 60-yard ball that just had too much on it for Rooney.

Former United keeper Howard had to be alert again when he blocked from Kagawa’s close-range strike.
As United continued to flow Antonio Valencia’s cross was glanced just wide by Ryan Giggs, playing his first game since turning 40.
Even when Howard was beaten by Rooney’s deflected strike after a lovely ball from Giggs, the post came to Everton’s rescue.

United had a big shout for a spot-kick when Valencia’s whipped ball hit Phil Jagielka’s arm in the box.
Blues wonderkid Barkley has sparked comparisons with Rooney and the Everton man did that justice when he shrugged off Fellaini and fired just wide from 25 yards.
De Gea was worked again when he swatted away from Lukaku.
Evra was in the mood and just after the break the left-back hit a rocket which was palmed away by Howard.

After a poor header from Fellaini, Barkley saw his strike fly wide off Chris Smalling.
Moyes made a double change to chuck on Nani and Adnan Januzaj just before the hour in an attempt to swing the match United’s way.

Nani lashed well over the bar and Rooney was booked when his frustration boiled over as he missed with an attempt to kick out at Jagielka.
With time running out, Lukaku scuffed a shot across goal and Oviedo tapped in at the far post.
