Villas-Boas relieved as wonder strikes from Chiriches and Holtby lifts pressure... for now

Andre Villas-Boas admitted he was relieved with his side's comeback victory over Fulham after the under-pressure Tottenham boss saw them record a 2-1 win to move up to sixth in the Barclays Premier League.

Former Spurs favourite Dimitar Berbatov set up Ashkan Dejagah after 56 minutes as the home side took the lead before Romania defender Vlad Chiriches netted an equaliser with his first goal for the club and Lewis Holtby scored a late winner to claim the three points for Tottenham and condemn Rene Meulensteen to defeat in his first match as Fulham boss.

Tottenham suffered their worst defeat in 17 years two weeks ago when they were hammered 6-0 by Manchester City, but morale has been lifted since thanks to a win over Tromso and a creditable 2-2 draw against Manchester United before Wednesday night's match.

Villas-Boas told Sky Sports: 'We've been waiting a lot for this win.

'First it was important to conclude the job from the draw against Manchester United and now we have the win so it gives us the winning feeling finally and puts us back on track, and jumps us up a couple of positions in the table as well.

'And it's another away win for us which is extremely important for our confidence.'

The manager praised his side's character but admitted he was disappointed they trailed to Dejagah's opener as he believes Spurs were playing their best football of the match when he put the Cottagers ahead.

He added: '(The win) was very important. I think we were a bit unlucky to suffer that goal because it was probably our best moment of the game, where we looked more in control of the game.

'So we made that mistake and I think it was a bit unfair.

'But I think after the goal the game reflected what it was in the first half which was end-to-end stuff.'
