Disappointment for Steve Clarke as West Brom decide not spend in January

STEVE CLARKE has been dealt a blow after it emerged West Brom plan to keep their cheque book shut in the January sales.

Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace plans to stick to his traditional policy of steering clear of spending in the mid-season window, despite their recent slump.

Albion have won just one of their last nine matches and head to Cardiff on Saturday on the back of three defeats on the spin.

But the Hawthorns hierarchy believe head coach Clarke already has sufficient depth and quality at his disposal to turn the tide.
