Liverpool slap huge price tag on star to ward off Spaniards
Liverpool have placed a £55million price tag on the head of Luis Suarez in the hope of scaring off Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants are rumoured to be preparing a £45million bid for the Uruguayan in January, after Liverpool spent the entire summer attempting to keep their star man at the club.
The controversial forward was the subject of two official bids from Premier League rivals Arsenal, whilst Real Madrid were also rumoured to be in the hunt. But with Carlo Ancelotti’s side having splashed a world record £86million on Gareth Bale, the club could not fork out the £55million asking price for Suarez.
Liverpool would demand the same fee in January, and any potential transfer may hinge on how well the sides are performing by December. Madrid may decide they do not need a striker if their form improves, whilst Suarez may look to stay until the end of the season at least if Liverpool are still in the hunt for a top four spot.
Suarez himself is still keen on a move to Madrid, whilst his agent Pere Guardiola has connections in Spain that my prove crucial.
Arsenal may well try and intervene should a transfer look like it may take place, although Liverpool remain reluctant to sell to a domestic rival.
Suarez returned to Premier League action for the first time since April last weekend, after being banned for 10 matches for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic. The forward was on target twice, as Liverpool beat Sunderland 3-1 to move to second in the table.
