Laudrup wary of Remy threat

Swansea manager Michael Laudrup has revealed he tried to bring Newcastle striker Loic Remy to the Liberty Stadium last summer.

Loic Remy: Has been in superb form this season The in-form Frenchman has scored eight goals in his last nine appearances for the Magpies, and will be a key man when the two sides meet on Wednesday evening.

Swansea, meanwhile, will be without their principal goalscoring threats thanks to injuries to Michu and record signing Wilfried Bony.

The acquisition of Ivory Coast international Bony from Vitesse Arnhem in the summer set Swansea back £12million, while Laudrup also brought in Spaniard Alvaro Vazquez on a season-long loan.

But the Dane has now stated he also targeted Remy, who eventually moved on loan to St James' Park after QPR's relegation, and admits his side will need to stop him, and his main supply man Yohan Cabaye, if they are to take all three points.

"He's really a player. I like him a lot," Laudrup said of Remy. "He was one of the players I was interested in last summer. There's no doubt about that.

"He is a player that I like. He has everything. He has speed, individual quality and goals.

"There are two key Newcastle players to stop. Remy and the delivery to him which comes from Cabaye. They are the main threats."
