At the other end of the table, Arsenal moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 victory at Cardiff. Afterwards Gunners boss Arsene Wenger expressed his delight with his side's defensive performance but Malky Mackay was also proud of the hosts' 'brave' performance. Two of Arsenal's goals were scored by midfield star Aaron Ramsey, who paid tribute to his former club.
Everton moved up to fourth with a thumping 4-0 triumph over Stoke - check out the verdicts of Toffees manager Roberto Martinez and Stoke boss Mark Hughes.
Newcastle made it four wins in a row with a 2-1 victory over West Brom in the late kick-off. Alan Pardew was thrilled by the resilience of the Magpies while Steve Clarke admitted he wanted more intensity from his players.
Tony Pulis was disappointed after watching Crystal Palace lose 1-0 at Norwich in his first game in charge of the Eagles. Winning manager Chris Hughton meanwhile felt his side's performance was as important as the result and believes it will give the players a much needed lift.
The day's other game finished goalless but both Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert and Sunderland counterpart Gus Poyet were content.
