Newcastle Striker Papiss Cisse will land buying club with a massive fee
PREMIER League clubs eyeing Papiss Cisse were last night warned they will have to pay mega-bucks to land the Newcastle striker.
But despite looking a shadow of the player who took English football by storm when he arrived in a £9m deal from Bundesliga outfit Freiburg two years ago, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew still has faith in him.
And he's told would-be buyers they are wasting their time if they think the Senegal star will be available on the cheap in January.
Not that Pardew has any plans to cash in on a player who is now behind Loic Remy, Shola Ameobi and Hatem Ben Arfa in the pecking order.
"He's training well and looks sharp and ready," said Pardew, whose in-form side entertain his former club Southampton tomorrow.
"I genuinely think that he'll be playing games over the busy period ahead of us.
Pardew admits that Cisse, who has not started a game since October, is finding it a struggle to cope with being on the outside looking in.
"He's not ecstatic right now, because footballers want to play, and I have no problem with that," he added.
"But he certainly hasn't sulked about it.
"He's trying to do his job and it's not easy because he has previously been a regular for us and been a regular throughout his career. He isn't used to this."
Pardew has no plans to sell players next month - and he warned that any club checking out Cisse's situation will get a nasty surprise.“He's training well and looks sharp and ready”Alan Pardew
"I would suggest they take a look at Mike Ashley's record of selling players," he said. "They'd have to spend a lot of money."
Newcastle will be given a rousing welcome by the Toon Army tomorrow after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford for the first time in 41 years last week.
And Pardew is confident it will not be a case of 'after the Lord Mayor's show' against the Saints.
He said: "We've had a lot of plaudits, but we've had a talk about keeping our feet on the ground and I am confident that is what this group of players will do.
"The first half at Swansea is about the only time I have been a little disappointed with them recently.
"Other than that, we have been absolutely magnificent."
