Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers eyes Wigan keeper Lee Nicholls - despite his Europa League calamity
The Anfield chief has sent scouts to watch the 21-year-old in action and views him as potential cover for Simon Mignolet
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is chasing Wigan’s young keeper Lee
Nicholls – despite his Europa League calamity, writes Alan Nixon in the
Sunday People.
Rodgers sent his spies to watch the 21-year-old, who has starred for Owen Coyle’s side in his first spell in the first team.
Nicholls is seen as potential cover for Simon Mignolet, taking over the role currently held by Australian Brad Jones.
Novice Nicholls made a horror slip to gift Belgians Zulte Waregem a goal and turn the tie, but that has not ended the Anfield interest.
Rodgers will continue to monitor Nicholls, who is set to stay in the team against Derby County today.
Coyle told Nicholls he would play after the game and skipper Emmerson Boyce added: “Nobody is blaming Lee. He has been terrific for us since he came in.”
England youth cap Nicholls is a Scouser who was at Liverpool as a kid before being released at 14.
Now he could have a chance to go back.
