Arsène Wenger backs Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey to win player of the year
Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger backs Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey to win PFA player of the year award on current
Arsène Wenger believes Aaron Ramsey will win the PFA player of the year award if the Arsenal star can continue his current form.
The 22-year-old midfielder scored the opener in Arsenal’s empathic 3-0 victory over the Wales international’s former side Cardiff City on Saturday.Ramsey, who joined in a £10m deal from the Bluebirds in 2008, has netted 15 goals in all competitions after previously top-scoring with four strikes in the 2009-10 season.
And Wenger reckons Ramsey is the clear favourite to win the end-of-season award if the Gunners playmaker continues to sparkle for the Premier League leaders.
“He has been outstanding until now. You want always to jump into the future but we have to enjoy the present,” Wenger said. “If he keeps playing like that, of course [he will be player of the year], but it has only been a third of the season.
“I have to treat him like the other players and give him a breather when he needs it. I want him to continue to develop, but he is so young you imagine why should he stop his development now?
“Let’s not forget that one year ago everyone questioned him. That shows you that he deserves credit for that – he has turned a corner and he can continue to improve.”
