Chelsea: Tactical change won the game - Mourinho
The Blues went behind after just 13 seconds at Stamford Bridge, but scored three times after the break to secure a 3-1 victory and keep up the pressure on leaders Arsenal.
Mourinho praised his players for not panicking at 1-0 down, and explained how his decision to field two strikers instead of one disrupted Southampton's usual playing style.
He said: "In the second half we played 4-4-2 and gave Southampton what they didn't expect. Southampton like to play from the back but by us playing two strikers pressing, it didn't allow that.
"The Southampton goal was like a knife in the back, but in the first half we played well, with no panic."
Chelsea captain John Terry, who scored his side's second goal, added: "The early goal gave Saints confidence and they were better than us in the first half. But we re-grouped and came out strongly."
