No Cardiff Swansea violence fear for Welsh police
SOUTH WALES POLICE have no fear of violence ahead of today’s Premier League derby between Cardiff and Swansea.
The 4pm kick-off at the Cardiff City Stadium has a history of trouble.
Away fans were banned for several years after 1993’s ‘Battle of Ninian Park’ where, after Cardiff went 1-0 up, Swansea fans ripped out seats and threw them at home supporters.
Tony SmithBut Superintendent Tony Smith, of South Wales Police, said: “Kick-off times are set by broadcasters, in this case Sky, in conjunction with the Premier League.
“We would only have a view if we thought a time was a problem, which in this case we do not.”
Swansea’s 2,200 fans will travel 40 miles down the M4 motorway with a police escort.
