Italian international Osvaldo - a £15m summer buy from Roma - scored a superb solo goal to earn Pochettino's men a 1-1 draw against Manchester City last weekend.
And Pochettino, whose side travel to Newcastle tomorrow, said: "We believe Dani still has a big margin to improve.
"He is in the middle of that process of growing and adapting to this league.
"The goal he scored against City puts him on the right path, but he still has to learn, has to improve and he has to mature."
