Danny Welbeck faces the possibility of another five weeks on the sideline after reports suggest that he will have to undergo surgery in order to fix his ongoing knee troubles.

The 22-year-old has previously had surgery on his knee but it is believed the remaining meniscus tissue is causing the issue with inflammation.


After a stunning start to the year against Swansea showcased the very best of Welbeck, his knee injury has now kept him out of United’s last six matches and is a cruel blow to him given how well he was playing.

United are well stacked in the striking department with Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez all vying for game time but Welbeck’s absence is a real blow for both him and the team.

He had found his goalscoring boots and his form for England was great too ahead of a World Cup year but missing another five weeks to recover from surgery will be terrible news for him but if it is the only way that he will be able to full recover from the injury, then it may well be his only option.
