Mourinho blasts Chelsea team after Newcastle defeat and prepares to make several changes for Champions League
In perhaps the biggest shock of the Premier League weekend Chelsea lost to Newcastle United at St James’ Park 2-0 and always looked second best.
Champions League tie with Schalke 04 on Wednesday.
“I will be making a lot of changes. Maybe not 11 because it will be too much but a lot,” Mourinho was quoted by the Sun.
“I don’t know my best team because we have this kind of performance. I knew basically my best team but performances and results alter your decisions.
“I am angry and frustrated with the team and I am part of the team.
“I have to analyse why we don’t do better, especially against Newcastle.
“This result was the worst.”
The Blues are actually doing well in Europe, after a disappointing opening fixture defeat to FC Basel at Stamford Bridge was followed by away victories over Steaua Bucharest and Schalke.
It puts the side level on points with the Germans at the top of their group and another win over the team on Wednesday should see the west London club with one foot in the last-16.
Mourinho will have to get the team playing better than they did against the Magpies though, with Ashley Cole, Frank Lampard, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres performing particularly badly.
It leaves the side in second position in the league still but they are now five points adrift of leaders Arsenal, who beat Liverpool 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
