Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers tells Daniel Agger to just defend
DANIEL AGGER has been told to forget about the fancy stuff and concentrate on his defending.
Defend The Liverpool vicecaptain is fighting to return to the starting line-up for tonight's Premier League clash with Norwich at Anfield.
And Rodgers says despite Agger's fantastic qualities on the ball, he might struggle to edge out Toure because the experienced Ivorian copes better with the rough stuff.
"The first thing you have to do is defend," said Rodgers. "The first attribute isn't about the ball, it is to defend. When you can defend, you then look to build the game from there.
"I just felt we have struggled at times against big physical opponents, so Toure has obviously coped well with that type of player.“The first attribute isn't about the ball, it is to defend. When you can defend, you then look to build the game from there”Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool manager
"So that was the idea, putting him (Toure) in against Hull, and obviously (Martin) Skrtel has been excellent since coming in. It was simply tactical."
But the Kop boss accepts that he must settle on a partnership at the heart of defence in the near future.
"It's is something I need to look at in order to get that consistency," Rodgers said. "The last couple of games we were disappointed with the goals we conceded."
