Ozil couldn't handle the pressure at Real Madrid, slams Perez
Arsene Wenger shocked everyone when he smashed his transfer record to land Ozil on transfer deadline day.
The deal, an astonishing £42.5million, marked a change of direction in the club's spending policy as Wenger finally pushed the boat out for a big signing.
Ozil has settled straight away and impressed in his first two matches but Perez says the Germany international was too weak to carry on with Madrid.
"The player asked to leave and nobody here should be upset about it. He couldn't handle the pressure at Madrid," he said.
Meanwhile, Perez has also backed Jose Mourinho following his departure from the Bernabeu to return to Chelsea.
Question marks have gathered over the Chelsea manager following his side's 2-1 defeat to Basel in the Champions League and decision to send Romelu Lukaku on loan to Everton.
But Perez reckons Mourinho's judgement should be backed.
"He's a coach who gave Madrid a lot, we've taken a real stride forward because of him, especially in Europe," he added.
"I like him and he did great things for the club. His values and way of seeing things is the right one."
