Wenger set to spend big in January
Arsene Wenger has been given assurances he will have the funds to bring a top striker to Arsenal in January, according to the Daily Mail.
The Gunners boss was left frustrated in his attempts to sign a forward in the summer, missing out on Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez.
But the club’s hierarchy have confirmed the Frenchman will have the funds to complete another major signing in the January transfer window, despite splashing out £42.5million on Mesut Ozil on deadline day.
The German enjoyed a superb home debut for the Gunners yesterday as Wenger’s men went top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win over Stoke City.
Ozil grabbed the headlines with three assists, while Aaron Ramsey continued his fine form with yet another goal.
Wenger feels a striker will complete his squad, with his midfield looking excellent in all departments.
While Ozil stood out on his home debut, a slightly more low key signing also enjoyed an excellent performance.
Wenger was also able to bring in Mathieu Flamini before the transfer window slammed shut, with the Frenchman returning to Arsenal on a free transfer.
Flamini was outstanding against Stoke City, while Mikel Arteta also made an impressive return from a six-week injury lay off.
This has left Wenger with plenty of options in midfield, although the Frenchman has conceded that Jack Wilshere may well be rested in order to avoid injury problems which have dogged him in the past.
“I would normally have rested Jack today,” said Wenger.
“He fought very hard and was exhausted in the end so I took him off.”
