Get your shooting boots on! Premier League averages lowest goals per game ratio of all time as players struggle to find the back of the net
The Premier League has a reputation as the most exciting division in the world but few could argue that the new season has lived up to the hype so far.
Sunday's 0-0 bore draw between Southampton and West Ham was the latest installment in a season which has seen teams struggle to find the back of the net and keep global audiences entertained.
In fact, with just 1.9 goals per game so far, the 2013/14 Premier League season is currently averaging the lowest amount of goals of any previous campaign.

Samuel Eto'o couldn't improve this season's goals per game ratio on his debut for Chelsea against Everton
And, if that wasn't bad enough, we're over half a goal per game down on the worst total ever recorded - 2.45 goals per game in 2006/07.
While Saints' draw with Sam Allardyce's side will have provided many viewers with ammunition for a mid-afternoon nap, it also compounded a less than spectacular start to the new season.
The stalemate was the sixth 0-0 in just 39 top-flight games this season, giving us a goalless draw every 6.5 games.

Although league leaders Arsenal have managed to score two goals per game so far, it's been a different story for other clubs accustomed to challenging towards the top of the table.
Liverpool currently sit third after winning all of their games but have only managed to find the back of the net on three occasions, with each strike coming courtesy of Daniel Sturridge.
Big spenders Tottenham are second on nine points but have only found the back of the net four times, with two of those coming via penalties from summer signing Roberto Soldado.

Easy: Arsenal's Olivier Giroud is the league's joint top scorer with four goals

Vital: Sturridge is the only Liverpool player to have scored in the league this season
Sunday's culprits Southampton and West Ham aren't doing much better, having bagged only two goals each in their fixtures so far.
Newly promoted Hull City have also found their way past their opposition defence just twice, with one of those a winning penalty from Robbie Brady against Norwich.

Missed: West Ham have struggled for goals with record signing Andy Carroll out injured

Frustration: Hull boss Steve Bruce reacts to his side missing a chance against Cardiff
Sportsmail's Gary Neville made reference to the lack of goals during his Sky Sports co-commentary duties on Sunday afternoon at St Mary's, suggesting that teams are finding it more difficult than ever to find a route to goal.
If those struggles continue and goals are scored at the current rate between now and May then we'll end up with just 721 goals this season - 210 less than the least prolific season of 2006/07 and 345 less than the goal-crazy campaign of 2011/12.
With goal-hungry Spanish forward Michu set to take on the in-form Sturridge when Swansea host Liverpool tonight, Premier League fans will be hoping two of the most attractive teams in the division can spark an improvement in front of goal starting at the Liberty Stadium.

On target: Michu will be looking to open his account for this season against Liverpool
