We’re not afraid of Eagles – Ethiopia strongman
Ethiopia
defensive midfield star Asrat Megersa insists the Walya Antelopes
are not bothered by Nigeria’s achievements in world football, saying
the North-East African country will beat the Super Eagles in Sunday’s
World Cup qualifying playoff in Addis Ababa.
African champions Nigeria are ranked
36th in the world, while Ethiopia occupy the 93rd position, but
Israel-based Megersa says the Walya Antelopes are ready to pull off one
of the greatest shocks in the game by defeating the Eagles and travel
to Calabar for the return match on November 16 to seal their place at
the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
“Their historical achievements will not
matter to us as we will play our hearts out like we have done in the
past matches without any fear,” the Ironi Nir Ramat HaSharon
star was quoted by supersport.com as saying on Thursday.
“I have reached a time in my career when I feel things have really worked well.
“A few years ago no one would have imagined we would be in the spot we are now, but the dream is finally coming to fruition.
“It has not been an easy road but
determination, hard work and self belief have helped the team to forge
ahead with a winning spirit.”
“Personally I am more than delighted and
despite talk from many people about the toughness of the Nigeria game I
feel no pressure at all as they are just normal players like we are.”
Meanwhile, Ethiopia coach Bishaw Sewnet will miss the services of striker Getaneh Gibeto on Sunday, according to BBC Sport.
Kebede picked up an ankle injury while playing for his South African club Bidvest Wits.
