Tottenham and Chelsea suffer transfer setback

Tottenham and Chelsea’s hopes of securing a deal for Juventus midfielder Andrea Pirlo have suffered a setback, with news that the Italian champions are ready to extend his contract.
The 34-year-old has recently been linked with a shock move to the Premier League following doubts surrounding his future.
Pirlo’s current deal with the Serie A giants is set to expire at the end of the season, and Juve were thought to be considering not offering him fresh terms.
This alerted Spurs and Chelsea, with both sides thought to have been keen on drafting in the vastly experienced playmaker.
However, Juventus’ general manager, Giuseppe Marotta, has revealed that discussions with Pirlo are being planned and even compared him to club icon Michel Platini.
“Who in the current Juventus side is most similar to (Michel) Platini? Andrea Pirlo, as a player and as a man,” Marotta told Sky Sports.
“His contract? With Andrea there are excellent relations and Juve is wide open to dialogue. We’ll talk about it.”
Pirlo is widely thought of as one of the very best midfielders on the planet and possesses Serie A, Coppa Italia, Champions League and World Cup winner’s medals from a glittering career.
