NSC queries NFF over Keshi
National
Sports Commission on Thursday asked the Nigeria Football Federation to
explain why it has not paid Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi and his
assistants for eight months.
Sources told our correspondent that the query was signed by the NSC Director-General Gbenga Elegbeleye.
It was learned that Keshi’s outburst on
Wednesday embarrassed the Federal Government, which asked the NSC to
query the football body.
But spokesman for the NFF Ademola Olajire said he was not aware of the query.
“I’ve been in Kenya for a week and I don’t know what’s going on,” Olajire told our correspondent on the telephone.
“Please contact the General Secretary (Musa Amadu).”
When our correspondent called Amadu on his mobile telephone, he refused to confirm or deny the story.
“Go and find out from the NSC,” he said.
South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations
winner Keshi told the media in Abuja on that not being paid after
laboring for his fatherland was the “lowest point” of his coaching
career.
“The lowest point of my career is
working and not being paid for seven to eight months. I have never had
this kind of experience before,” the former Nigeria captain said.
“In Mali, they will never owe you. Your
salary will hit your account before the end of every month. It was the
same thing in Togo.
“Owing me up to seven months makes me
feel I am not being appreciated. It is like they (my employers) think I
am being favoured in what I am doing.”
