350 golfers for P’Harcourt tourney
Three
hundred and fifty golfers are set to begin battle for the 2013 Port
Harcourt Amateur Open Golf Championship, which tees off on Friday with a
cocktail at the golf section of Port Harcourt Club 1928.
Captain of the club, Opunabo
Inko-Tariah, said, “The tournament remains one of the biggest events at
the club and we expect 350 golfers from across the country to take part
in it.
“Heritage Bank is the major sponsor of
this year’s event, so we decided to christen the trophy The Heritage
Cup. In terms of preparations, we are 100 per cent ready to make it a
memorable weekend.
“During championship with large fields like this, the course plays quite slow.
“Nothing can really be done about the
slow play of the course in tournaments with heavy human traffic.
Everybody wants a large turnout in tournaments and so do we. If the
course is slow because of a large turnout of golfers, then so be it. But
we will use marshalls that would ensure that play is not ridiculously
slow.”
