We’re ready for Addis Ababa clash – Echiejile, Musa
Portugal-based
defender Elderson Echiejile and Russia-based winger Ahmed Musa say the
Super Eagles are ready for Sunday’s World Cup qualifying playoff against
Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
Although the duo expect a stiff opposition from the Walya Antelopes, they backed the Eagles for victory.
Sporting Braga’s Echiejile said the team
had been training hard ahead of the encounter and promised that there
would be no surprise result in the game.
“Good training with the Eagles, we’re
getting set for the big,” the 25-year-old left-back wrote on his Twitter
page on Wednesday.
Musa predicted that the result of the game would be like the one from the Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria won 2-0.
The CSKA Moscow star said, “The
Ethiopians are a very difficult team to play. They are quick, they like
to pass and they have speed but with all that we will still beat them.
“I see us winning by the same margin we defeated them in South Africa.”
However, the former Kano Pillars player
said victory would not come easy for the Eagles and urged his teammates
to be ready for a tough fight in Addis Ababa.
“The Ethiopians are no pushover, but we need to get a decent result over there, so that we can finish the job in Calabar.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool forward Victor
Moses says the high altitude of Ethiopia and the bumpy pitch at the
Addis Ababa Stadium won’t work against the Eagles.
“We are African players and we
understand the terrain, so I don’t think their bumpy pitch would be a
problem for our team,” he said.
