We have control of our destiny – Kone
Burkina
Faso central defender, Bakary Kone, tells cafonline.com they have their
destiny in their hands ahead of this weekend’s World Cup playoff
against Algeria in Ouagadougou.
How are you bracing up for the game against Algeria on Saturday?
Everything is on course so far after
early arrival of players for the game. It gives us ample time to prepare
for test against the Algerians.
Do you think Algeria is the best team to play against at this stage?
I cannot tell whether it’s the best or
most difficult to play against. It is worthy to note that all the teams
at this stage are not here by chance and have equal chances of
qualifying for the World Cup. Under these circumstances, regardless of
the opponent, we have control of our destiny.
How are you enjoying your new partnership with Steeve Yago at the heart of defence?
Such decisions are up to the coach based
on the performance level of a particular player and his tactical plans.
I’m a part of the defence and I adapt well with Yago (who plays for
Toulouse in France). He is a young defender but getting stronger and
better with time. We need everyone especially the younger ones, because
they are the future.
Two matches away from the World Cup, are you dreaming about Brazil already?
The dream has become closer after our
win over Gabon last September to reach this stage. It was impossible at
the beginning and now the World Cup dream is possible. We (players) have
a great desire to make this dream a reality.
How special is this game?
We are staying casual as possible, doing
everything towards the ‘D-day’. We are not stressing ourselves too much
since we want to express ourselves better at the August 4 Stadium on
Saturday.
What kind of result are you looking forward to?
To me, the best result is one that will
take us through. It’s good to win in Ouagadougou, but let’s not forget
there is a return encounter.
