MTN Soccer: Ojokoro defeat Lagos Island in final
The
recently concluded season six of MTN Lagos Street Soccer recorded a
major landmark in the history of the tournament, with the introduction
of the U-15 age category.
Folarin Gbadebo Street of Ojokoro
emerged the maiden champions in the category, beating Princess Street of
Lagos Island West in an explosive final, which ended in a penalty
shoot-out, at the Campos mini stadium, Lagos.
Newcomers ABS Street of Mosan Okunola
LCDA, also overcame all odds to emerge the winners of the senior
tournament, defeating Agege Street of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA in a
shoot-out after a 1-1 draw. Arogun Street of Agbado Okeodo defeated
Triumph Football Academy of Lagos Island, to be crowned as champions in
the female category.
Mike Ikpoki, CEO MTN Nigeria, said the
company’s aim of sponsoring the annual tourney was to breed stars for
the future. He stated this in Lagos, at the closing ceremony of this
year’s edition of the tournament.
“The MTN Lagos Street event presents a
unique opportunity for a new generation of stars in Nigeria to discover
their football skills at various levels of the competition. More so,
this soccer tournament helps to channel the energies of the youths
constructively, thereby diverting them from negative practices, which
are detrimental to their future and the society,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Lagos
State, Mrs. Joke Orelope-Adefulire, has commended MTN Nigeria for its
support, interest and passion towards the state and national
development.
