Keshi banks on Omeruo for Ethiopia clash
Nigeria
coach Stephen Keshi has said he is confident Kenneth Omeruo will be
ready for a World Cup playoff against Ethiopia next month.
Nigeria won the first leg in Addis Ababa 2-1 on October 13 and the return leg is fixed for November 16 in Calabar.
Chelsea central defender Omeruo has
been out of the national team since June after he got injured at the
2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil.
However, the 20-year-old defender is fast recuperating as he under goes rehabilitation with his English side Chelsea.
“I am happy at the recovery pace of
Kenneth and I want to stay positive that he would be in good health
ahead of our November game in Calabar,” Keshi told MTNFootball.com.
“He called me when we returned from
Addis Ababa and he has started light training, so I am hoping that he
would be fully fit before the game next month because we need all of our
players to be in good health and support the team.”
Omeruo has established himself in the
Eagles after he benched skipper Joseph Yobo at the 2013 Africa Cup of
Nations in South Africa.
Warri Wolves skipper Azubuike Egwuekwe
has been deputising for him in the heart of the Eagles back four
alongside Godfrey Oboabona.
