Kanu tips Eagles, Eaglets
Former
Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu has tipped the Super Eagles to beat
Ethiopia in their return leg 2014 World Cup playoff in Calabar on
November 16 to land in Brazil for the tournament.
Kanu also tipped the Golden Eaglets to win the ongoing FIFA Under-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games gold
medallist, who spoke at the Kanu Heart Foundation’s ‘Heal-a-Heart’
lottery draw in Lagos on Wednesday, urged Nigerians to support the two
national teams.
He said, “I always say that we have a good team (Super Eagles), we have a good coach (Stephen Keshi)
and we have to believe in them because that gives them confidence to go there and do it for us.
“If they could beat Ethiopia on a bad
pitch in Addis Ababa, then they can do it here (in Nigeria). The most
important thing at this stage is to get the result. It does not matter
how we play. We want to be in Brazil.
“We have done that away (Ethiopia),
coming down to Nigeria here, we have to make sure that we finish the
job. We must be focused and that is important.
“We have a good team at UAE 2013 and
they must try to win. They played like champions, for them to come back
and equalise the game against Sweden and we should praise them for their
efforts.
“For me, they have done well so far.
If they put in more effort I am very sure they will win the cup.
Moreover, we have good players there.”
