Benzema for Suarez

Real Madrid are set to offer Karim Benzema and £20 million to Liverpool for Luis Suarez; Chelsea are targeting Xabi Alonso; and Chris Coleman has entered the running to be Crystal Palace manager - here are the main stories making headlines in today's newspapers.

Real eye Suarez swoop in New Year: The Daily Star offers up an exclusive today, in which they claim Real Madrid are plotting a January move for Luis Suarez by offering Liverpool £20m plus Karim Benzema. The report states that Suarez still wants out of Anfield and the Uruguayan's heart set on a move to the Bernabeu.

Madrid value Benzema at £20 million, making the overall package worth around £40m, the paper claims. The Spanish giants could not afford a cash-only bid, given their expenditure over the summer on Gareth Bale, so any deal would depend on Benzema's willingness to play ball.

Paper Round's view: It's difficult to take this story too seriously considering editors of the very same publication decided it was a good idea to give the green light for a front page splash on Princess Diana speaking from the grave to warn Kate Middleton about her weight.

That said, it would come as no surprise if Suarez did still want to leave Anfield, despite his and Liverpool's good early season form. And, of course, Arsenal are still in the offing.
